Organizing your punches, dies and embossing folders

Today I continue on my journey to show you how I organize my crafting tools, accessories, paper and ink.  In the last two weeks,  we have conquered the organization of paper, ink and ribbon.  So today we will look at storing punches, dies, framelits and embossing folders.

I know that if I can't see the items they won't get used and who wants to keep digging to find what you need.  Target has cute and rather inexpensive baskets that I have purchased to organize my punches and dies.  I keep my punches, embellishments such as candy dots, and envelopes on a closet shelf in my craft room in the small sized baskets.

Since my craft table is black I have tried to stick with black or very dark brown (think Early Espresso) for my baskets and organizing containers.  Remember the decorator boxes on the walls from last week's post?, they are black too.  Here is a close up of the baskets:

Do you see how I put the Itty Bitty shapes punches in a Half sized Wood Mount Case?  Then they don't fall down between the larger punches never to be seen again!

I need another of the Target baskets so they all coordinate but this works for now.  It is another basket with a liner.  It holds all my Texture Embossing folders along with my envelope liner framelits (I use those with every card so why put them away), and the two thinlit dies (circle and scallop).  It is easy to thumb through to the folders I want.  Right next to this are two medium sized Target baskets perfect for holding my dies.

These sit right behind my BigShot on the desk in my craft room.  Super handy and again easy to see!

I have all the framelis organized in a small binder also on this table top.  I shared how I store those months ago, check it out again here.

I hope these ideas are helping you organize and get the most out of all your craft supplies.

Tomorrow will be a BIG celebration at the Pals Paper Arts Challenge.  It will be Challenge #200 and we have something special planned.  Don't miss it!!!  I hope to see you back tomorrow.

Birthday Card in a Box

These "cards in a box" are the hot trend right now.  It seemed like a lot more work than perhaps I might want to do for a card.  Yet I was drawn to try it.  Check out the result…

I have a colleague at work who turned 50 yeasterday and she loves owls so I thought this was a fun way to say happy birthday.

I can see the mistakes I made in the placement of the accessories – some of the items are blocked by others.  The Hey there! should be on less of an angle and you would be able to read it.  And the Owl should be higher so he is not blocked by the 50.  I know I am nit-picking, I am a recovery perfectionist and sometimes I can't help myself.

The card ends up 6" by 7" when it lies flat. so I had to make a custom envelope.  Of course that had to be decorated as well.

Here is a peek from overhead so you can really see how this comes together.

A super clever design.  I followed the instructions by Dina Kowal on Splitcoast Stampers.  This is a great tutorial.  And a final look of the card before it goes into the envelope.

As you read this I am in Chicago for our final whirlwind College tour – three universities in three different cities in five days.  Pierce must make his decision on where he will attend by May 1st and the time is ticking.  Wish me luck!

Thoughts & Prayers

04-12-2014

I saw on Facebook that an old colleague lost her brother to cancer.  She has a wonderful family and a resilient spirit and I wanted her to know I was thinking of her.

I love the Thoughts & Prayers stamp set because it always seems to says just what I am feeling and has two simple elegant foilage stamps to go with it.

The DSP is from the Sale-a-Bration DSP pack called Sweet Sorbet.  A similar palette and pattern can be found in the Fresh Prints DSP Paper Stack in the Occasions Catalog.

The card base is Island Indigo cut 6" x 7" and scored for a 6" x 3 1/2" card.  The tree is stamped in Sahara Sand  ink and the sentiment in Island Indigo.  Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon tied in a knot finishes it perfectly.

And my envelope was custom crafted using the Envelope Punch Board!

Just Because It’s Thursday

Just Because it is Thursday and a Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge I created this card!

Clean and simple using the color challenge colors:

The card base is So Saffron followed by a mat of Calypso Coral.  I framed my focal point in black to make it pop.  The butterflies are from the Best of Butterflies stamp set and stamped in Calypso Coral and Pear Pizzazz.  The ribbon is also Pear Pizzazz and the embellishment is from the 2013 Spring Catty.

The sentiment is from A Dozen Thoughts .

Here is another photo with the envelope which had to have one of these adorable butterflies.

I actually used this color collection a couple of weeks ago in a card because I love orange and green!  It is such a springy color palette.  I have noticed I am using a lot of orange lately.  I will work to change things up a bit – promise.

Don't forget to play with the Pals yourself this week!
