Post-Christmas Birthday

Let's face it, having your birthday around Christmas can be difficult.  My Best Friend (yes with capital letters) had her youngest the day after Christmas.  He is a great kid and I always want to do something special for him on his birthday.

He is getting older so cash and gift cards are the best way to go.  I think this masculine card will be a big hit with him.

Gorgeous Grunge is the perfect background for a masculine card. The silver Encore ink and Basic Metal Button (NEW in the Occasions catalog) really jazz this card up.  The sentiment is also a sneak peek from the Occasions catalog.  It is called Perfect Pennants and has coordinating Banner Framelits. This set will be available as a bundle and you will save 15%.

I want you to see how I anchored the gift card … using a Stampin' Up Square Envelope 3 1/8" x 3 1/8" I mounted it with the flap flipped under.  The perfect gift card holder!

So I want to send out a big Happy Birthday to David.  Enjoy your special day.

Cheers,

Michelle

Merry Christmas!

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."- Linus

As you gather around the tree, or table with family and friends we must be grateful for all that we have in our lives.

Today we also celebrate the final Pals Paper Arts Sketch #185 for 2013:

More Masculine Birthday Wishes

There are so many great cards for the women in our lives – flowers, ribbon and bling are often part of these cards.  So when I see a card that can be tweaked for a masculine card I Pin-It on Pinterest. This card was inspired by a card by Paula Dobson.

Night of Navy is the base of this standard A2 card.  Then I embossed the front of the card using the Stylish Stripes Textured Embossing Folder from the holiday catalog*.  I cut a piece of Whisper White card stock 3-3/4" x 5" and placed a light pencil line about 1-3/4" from the top.  Then I stamped the sentiment from the Four You Stamp Set.  Next using the numbers from the Memorable Moments Stamp Set I randomly stamped numbers in the following colors –  More Mustard, Night of Navy, Gumball Green, and Pumpkin Pie.  I covered my pencil line with Midnight Muse 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon.  The Whisper White card stock was then adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals to add more depth to the card.

I love how this turned out. Where do you get your ideas for masculine cards?

*Remember items in the holiday catalog are only available through the end of the December! If you have been holding off purchasing something you only have a few more days.

Cheers,

Michelle

Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge #184

Happy Thursday!  I am so excited because I am officially on vacation for two weeks!!!!  It has been a long time since I took two weeks off of work.  I have a tough time taking two days off on the weekend.  So this is a much needed break for me and my entire family.

Here is the sketch for this week's PPA Sketch Challenge challenge:

PPA184

Confession – I am not good at creating these diagonals.  I tried and started ruining some of my favorite NEW Deisgner Series Paper.  So I took creative liberty with this sketch. I put my center rectangle on the diagonal and used the chevron pattern to create illustrate the movement of the sketch.

I did use the new Watercolor DSP from the Occasions Catalog as well as a new stamp set/framelit bundle called Starburst Sayings with the coordinating Starburst Framelits.  I am a push over for Framelits.  I purchase the bundles whenever they are available.

As I have mentioned previously we are traveling for the holiday – not to visit family but to take a vacation.  We decided as a family to create memories rather than get more things.  We leave this evening for Paris!  Our sons have never been abroad so they are over the top excited.  I have set up some posts for you to enjoy and I may even post while on the trip.

Cheers,

Michelle
