Fabulous Flowers

06-30-2014

This card makes me want to smile.  Is it the colors?  The font of the sentiment?  I am really not sure, I just know that it makes me happy.

This card is for a dear friend who is having a birthday today.  We are neighbors yet due to our busy lives we rarely see each other.  When we do, we pick up right where we left off.  She is ALWAYS there when I need her.  I am very independent and it is difficult for me to ask someone for help.  (Silly I know.)  This friend somehow makes it easy for me to ask her for help.  She makes me feel it is more rewarding for her to get the opportunity to help than it is an additional burden she is taking on.  She is such a wonderful person and I am so very blessed to have her in my life.  I hope you have someone like this in your life.

She has raised a wonderful son who will also be going off to college this fall.  He will be in ROTC while attending the University of South Florida.  She is one very proud mama.  It has been wonderful to watch our children grow into young men together.

The inside of this card is the perfect sentiment for this dear friend.

Pals Paper Arts – Take One

07-05-2014

I hope everyone had a fun, relaxing and safe 4th of  July.  The card above was my original card for the Pals Paper Arts Challenge.  While it is a good masculine birthday card it did not wow me.  To check out the card I actually posted for the Pals Challenge you can click here.

Sometimes what we envision in our minds just does not materialize.  I did learn several things from creating this card that I corrected for my final PPA card.  I realized the Lost Lagoon and Basic Gray were too dark together.  In my PPA Challenge card I layered the Pool Party and Lost Lagoon together.  The Pool Party lightened the card quite a bit.

If I redid this card…as I typed this I decided to stop and simply redo the card.  Here it is:

  07-05-2014 redo

It is still not one of my favorite cards but it does not look as dark as it did (the gray is photographing darker than it is on the card). The point is that by changing up different aspects (i.e., colors) of a card the look can change dramatically.

Thanks for stopping by and experimenting with me.

Cool Water Colors

PPA 210 Gleeson

This week's Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge includes colors that remind me of cool tropical waters…let's check out the colors.

PPA210

I struggled with this color challenge.  I love the colors together yet I could not get my StampinMojo going.  When that happens I go to my favorite inspiration … nature, catalogs, and Pinterest.  This week my inspiration came from Michele Rey another Stampin Up demonstrator using the Postage Due stamp set on Pinterest.

The stamps are embossed with Pool Party Emboss Powder and punched out with the Postage Stamp punch.  Each postage stamp is layered onto a square that was cut using the second smallest square  of the Square Collection Framelits.

The DSP is from the Moonlight Paper Stack and the sentiment is from the Itty Bitty Banners and coordinating framelits.  I thought the Basic Metal Button with Basic Gray Bakers Twine was the perfect finishing touch to this card.

Oh My Goodies

When I first started paging through the new Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog I got very scared.  On the first four pages (pages 6 – 9) I wanted everything I saw and thought "Wow, am I in trouble".  My wish list continued to grow from there.  Thank goodness I am a demo and get a discount!

The stamp set on page 9 called Oh My Goodies was a favorite from the beginning.  I love that the stamp set coordinates with the Deco Framelit Collection and each of these stamps was simply better than the last.  My favorite is the one I used today.

My color choices were inspired by Stampin' Up!'s Beach House Washi Tape – Crushed Curry, Pool Party and Real Red.  I used Stampin Write Markers to ink up the stamp and I got a perfectly crisp image.  Love it!

I put the Washi Tape on a piece of Whisper White card stock scrap and then adhered that to my card for added dimension and crisp edges.  I certainly could have placed the washi tape directly on the card but I wanted a crisp edge on either end.

The Pool Party Candy Dots provide balance to the large sentiment label toward the top of the card.  Here is a close up of the details…
