This weekend I was fortunate enough to attend The Kentucky Derby. A Bucket List event of a lifetime and the experience was everything I had hoped it would be and more.

On Friday we toured the Buffalo Trace Distillery a National Historic Landmark that remains is fully functional today. We had an amazing tour guide Freddie Johnson who’s heartfelt stories of his grandfather and father, who both worked at the distillery, made the tour so personal. Then we toured Winstar Farms where we saw Pioneer of the Nile the sire to American Pharaoh. Isn’t he handsome?

That evening we attended a beautiful pre-derby party. Believe it or not five days earlier this was a fully functional barn! It was an incredible evening with a band from Atlanta that was out of this world. We never stopped dancing once they started playing.

So my card today is a Congratulations card to the Derby winner Always Dreaming . Ironically one of the owners of Always Dreaming was on my airport shuttle when I arrived back to Naples this morning. It was crazy and so exciting to talk to them about the next race in their pursuit of the triple crown.

My card today was created using splotches from Stampin’ Up’s Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set (retiring on May 31st) and Simon Say Stamps Painted Congrats Framelit. What looks like grey splotches are really three sequins from Pretty Posh.

Congrats to #AlwaysDreaming the 2017 Kentucky Derby Winner.

I am using one of the NEW 2017-2018 In-Colors from Stamping’ Up! – Tranquil Tide. I thought it would be the perfect backdrop for a Get Well card.

The DSP is the new Eastern Palace Designer Series Paper. Every design is stunning. I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits to create the stitched rectangle as my focal point. The sentiment and the shells are not Stampin’ Up. I sold one of the retired SU stamp sets that had this shell a few years ago. I have regretted it ever since and had to get a contraband replacement.

The inside sentiment is new from Simon Says Stamps called Handlettered Encouragement. I am always looking for sentiment stamps in great fonts.  I love this set.

Happy Easter!

I am disappointed that the Penned & Painted Photopolymer Stamp Set is retiring. You can bet it will remain in my stamp collection for years to come.

The color palette I used is:

Rich Razzleberry
Sweet Sugarplum
Always Artichoke
Old Olive

It is rich and earthy. Sweet Sugarplum is my least favorite color in the pink/purple family but I do like it paired with Rich Razzleberry.

I used a retired stamp set – Another Thank You – for the sentiment. I love the font for this stamp and it remains on my crafting table for easy access when I need a quick thank you. I took a piece of scrap paper and stamped the sentiment and then folded the strip around the corner of the card. I like how it turned out.

I stamped a flower in the bottom right corner of on the inside of my card as well. Can you see it peeking out of the bottom corner?

I LOVE this new stamp set. It is called Eastern Beauty. It has coordinating dies called Eastern Medallion Thinlits. You will swoon for these as well.

At first you might be underwhelmed but look at how I used the three dots, the spray of dots and the flower to create the unique design for this card. And the fonts are fabulous! I had so much fun playing with the different elements to create several different cards.

I love how the spray of dots connect to create a circle to frame the flower.  I used a NEW In-Color called Fresh Fig for the flower and the dots within the flower. I added Nuvo Crystal Drops to each dot for glossy raised texture to each dot.

I was having so much fun I had to decorate the inside of the card as well. You can see the Fresh Fig better in this photo.

Today the new catalog is released to demonstrators along with the retired catalog list. I am excited to see what other must have items Stampin’ Up! has come up with.
