Can you believe it is AUGUST? The summer, no the year, has flown by.

I have two goddaughters that are heading off to college and I am beginning to make cards to send them the first couple of months of the school year. I thought this Pocket Card was fun and would enable me to easily add a Starbucks Gift Card.

I used the hostess set Time of Year for the sentiment of the card. Don’t you LOVE this font. The pocket is decorated with Fruit Stand DSP with Flirty Flamingo as the base card stock. The small flower on the card is from the Fresh Fruit stamp set. I adore this set.

Happy 90th Maurine!

Stampin Up, Paper Pumpkin Stamp set, Birthday card ideas - Michelle Gleeson, SUI cased this card from Regina Andari. I made only minor changes from her original design as I loved the color combination so much.

I created this card for a very special woman, Maurine Weisgal, who turned 90 this week. I worked for her husband when I was in college and we have remained close all these years. She is an amazing role model. She is always positive and upbeat. She is well read, educated and remains current to keep up with her grandkids and great grandkids.

Last night we went to her birthday celebration. It was a lovely evening. The inside sentiment could not be more true for someone like Maurine. She truly sees the best in everyone.

A few tips in creating this card:

  • The base is 5 1/2″ square in Crumb Cake
  • Mossy Meadow (retired) Layer is 1/8″ smaller
  • Whisper White layer is 1/8″ smaller
  • The stamped squares are 1″ square. I stamped them after cutting them out.
  • The frames are 1 1/4″ square
  • Vellum layer was stamped in Stazon – Jet Black and wraps around all the layers.
  • The Linen Thread was also wrapped around all the layers and tied before adhering the Mossy Meadow to the card base.

I hope you are as fortune as I am to have someone like Maurine in your life. She has been an amazing role model of how to age with grace, style and a positive attitude regardless of what life sends her way.

A very HAPPY birthday Maurine, you are loved deeply.

Blue Bird of Happiness for PPA 311

We have a soft color palette from Lynn Hoyt for this week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge.

I was not sure what I wanted to do with this color palette. I wanted to ink up the Best Birds Photopolymer Stamp set so my StampinMojo began envisioning the branch in Smoky Slate and the bird in Marina Mist. At that point I knew I was on my way.

I am not artistic, at least not in the sense of manually coloring the bird. So I had to come up with how to add the Marina Mist to my bird. I took a piece of Watercolor Paper and created a Marina Mist watercolor wash, then I stamped the bird in Smoky Slate ink onto the watercolor wash and cut him out with the coordinating Birds & Blooms Thinlits. It did take a few tries before I felt I achieved the right depth of the Marina Mist I wanted as well as the placement on the bird.

The branch was stamped twice once in Smoky Slate and again with Old Olive. After cutting out the Old Olive branch using the coordinating thinlit I cut off the leaves and added them to the Smoky Slate branch. The Pink Pirouette blossoms are the perfect finishing touch to the scene.

The sentiment is from the Wetlands stamp set.

Happy Birthday Dear Friend

Today is the celebration of my dear friend Kathy’s birthday. We have been friends for over 40 years and my life is richer because she is in it. While distance keeps us apart geographically we have never been closer. I am sad we cannot be together for our birthdays. Someday!

I CASE’d (Copy And Selectively Edit) this card from another Pal Rosanne Mulheron where she featured the middle sized daisy from the Grateful Bunch Photopolymer Stamp Set (one of my favorite sets).

The inside sentiment is from Avery Elle. I love the font she uses.

I hope this brings a smile to her face. Kathy always calls me first thing in the morning on my birthday to make sure she is the first to wish me happy birthday. Her hubby is away so I am hoping she gets to sleep in so I may not call first thing this year.

This is Kathy and I a few years ago at their Lake House. I treasure this photo and keep it in my office. It makes me smile every time I see it.
